Mark Oldham brings a generalist’s architectural voice to PAYETTE and possesses an interest in clarity and simplicity in the architectural expression of ideas. He believes that delivering inspired architecture requires a complex and ever-expanding collection of voices with each one essential to the craft. Mark believes in our role as stewards of that collective intelligence and in our responsibility to focus those voices into coherent and exquisite statements.
Mark has over 20 years of experience leading a variety of national award-winning projects in the higher education realm and has expertise creating buildings in cherished academic settings.
Mark has extensive science experience including the nationally acclaimed New Science Center at Amherst College and Rockwell Integrated Sciences Center at Lafayette College, both of which have won the prestigious AIA COTE Top Ten award, as well as AIA national awards. He recently finished the design of the New Science Building at Wesleyan University and the zero carbon Sustainable Engineering Laboratories at UMass Amherst. He also led the design of Penn State’s recently completed Engineering Collaborative Research & Education Building, a 280,000 SF engineering research and teaching engine, including general laboratories and specialized core facilities, as well as a student hub that showcases the social energy of the entire precinct and establishes a vibrant new identity for the College of Engineering on its new West Campus.
