PAYETTE recently renovated the M&V Wing of the Biomedical Research & Public Health Building at the Tufts University School of Medicine. Adaptive reuse projects like this often involve a great deal of complexity, so we conducted a Post Occupancy Evaluation to see how the occupants were using the space. This consisted of in-person interviews with the building users including faculty and staff.
The building users felt that the renovation “hit all of the marks.” The breakout spaces and kitchenettes are well-liked and being used frequently. The feedback from the teaching faculty on the anatomy lab has been very positive. Many of the faculty commented that the lighting works very well for the level of dissection and doesn’t cast shadows, which is very important for dissection. They also noted that “the soundproofing is really amazing.”
