The design for the National Coast Guard Museum, located in New London, Connecticut is in progress and we’re looking forward to how this project will help shape and revitalize the area.
Part of what makes this project exciting are the opportunities embedded along the Thames River in downtown New London. The building is situated at the city’s intermodal nexus. This includes the Cross Sound Ferry, which serves ports along Long Island Sound and Block Island, the Amtrak North-South Corridor, major public parking structures and the City Bus terminal. Built on the waterfront side of the rail lines, the project offers the opportunity to become both a destination and venue for travelers. Perhaps most importantly the project has the opportunity to become a gateway to the city of New London, connecting the City’s waterfront property to the downtown Parade Plaza and local shops and stores.

The 2025 OpenLAB Boston studio work will be exhibited at Virginia Tech Monday, March 2nd through Wednesday, March 4th.

This year’s studio identifies seven sites along the frayed edges of Boston’s Greenway. The Greenway is a one-mile-long linear park running through the heart of the city, reconnecting downtown Boston with its waterfront. Many of the parcels along its edges remain undeveloped and present mute, blank facades to the public realm. Addressing and repairing these edges through acts of infilling, layering, grafting, framing, and placemaking is the core focus of the studio—SUTURE.
