The one-day 2016 SCUP North Atlantic Symposium will examine how Northeastern University has managed its growth and transformation of the campus including a discussion lead by PAYETTE Principal Bob Schaeffner on our Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex project.
Building the Campus: From Commuter College to Research Institution
As Northeastern has changed from a commuter institution to residential research institution in Boston, the urban landscape of the campus has dramatically evolved. Jim Brand, Director of Space and Capital Planning at Northeastern University, will facilitate a panel discussion of local Architects who have shared in shaping our physical campus. Bill Rawn from William Rawn Associates will discuss the 2000 Institutional Master Plan (IMP) and the West Village buildings, the large residential complex that was the impetus for Northeastern’s transformation into a residential community. Bob Schaeffner from PAYETTE will discuss our newest development, the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC). Alex Krieger from NBBJ will speak to the current IMP as well as the study of developing a coordinated, systemic renovation plan for the United Realty (UR) Complex; a four-building, 20th century industrial complex that houses 217,000 gsf of academic and administrative units on campus.
