We are fast approaching the finish line of our Northeastern University Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) project and we will see furniture solutions installed in conference rooms and faculty offices within eight weeks with remaining items shortly thereafter.
Currently the interior finishes are coming together based on a concept that creates a neutrally layered backdrop to help define the interior architecture seen immediately upon entering the atrium. From the atrium, the vertical planes step back in subtle white to gray tones coordinated with a deep charcoal carpet that unifies the office, conference and workplace zones on each floor.
Accent colors are introduced into the office corridor walls with even bolder accents for collaboration and shared public space entries. It’s at these “social hubs” that we introduce a greater burst of color through the furniture and custom wall-art designs. Each floor offers several social hubs which are set up to support the ISEC’s goal of progressive thinking, socializing and sharing of information and ideas. The kitchenette is the central hub within the office pod while additional hubs connect the North and South office and lab pods to further support the opportunity for impromptu learning and social interaction.
Using this collaborative learning approach, we established a balanced furniture solution for the write-up areas adjacent to the labs. Straying from the traditional 1:1 desk assignment strategy, the write-up zone instead delivers a rhythm of furniture families for gathering, collaborating and focused work. The range of product solutions meets various working styles within one space. The color palette maintains a vibrant a lively combination of blues and greens coordinating with the Atrium level public space which is also programmed to be an extension of both a social and collaborative learning environment.
