Attending the 2014 I2SL Conference this September? Be sure to check out our discussion, “Leveraging BIM to meet sustainable design goals,” during the BIM session on Monday, 9/22.
Northeastern University’s new 234,000GSF Integrated Science and Engineering Complex is the first phase of an ambitious plan to develop 600,000 GSF of new academic and research space adjacent to Ruggles Station. This new building will provide state-of-the-art research facilities, aimed at fostering collaboration across disciplines, and increasing the university’s capacity to hire top faculty and academic leaders.
From the outset, the project goals have been to provide a building which is sustainable, energy efficient, comfortable, flexible and achieves a high LEED certification.
The use of Building Information Modeling combined with an integrated design process has led to a building which is tracking LEED Platinum.
This session will explore; how the building form, design of the exterior skin and creative mechanical design solutions helped minimize energy consumption; the design of the landscape for connectivity, water management and social interaction; use of BIM as an integral part of the design process.
