This year we are very excited to lead three sessions at the annual AIA Convention. Andrea Love is talking about the 2030 Commitment and how we integrate research into our practice. Karen Robichaud is talking about how to develop and execute firm-wide social media strategies.
Social Media: The Secret Sauce
5/14/2015 | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Georgia World Congress Center, Room B406
Design professionals are social by nature, after all, and visual media is the perfect partner for design. But social media can be confusing, and it’s easy to get lost in the noise, spending lots of time for little return.
In this interactive session, you’ll learn the “secret sauce” for using social media to raise your firm’s profile, generate connections, and increase profitability. Discover the right mix of content, tone, frequency, and value to engage your audience and enhance initiatives such as:
• Staff on-boarding
• Community building
• Content curation
By referencing both an individual architect’s social media presence and firm-wide efforts, this session will demonstrate strategies that increase visibility and forge serendipitous connections. As a result, you’ll be able to properly assess and utilize social media tools, and measure metrics of success.

2030 Commitment Barriers and Successes
5/15/2015 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Georgia World Congress Center, Room B314
By aiming to reduce the environmental impact of every project, the AIA 2030 Commitment is creating a better future for the planet. But what will be the impact on your practice? Find out at this panel discussion.
Representatives from a small firm, a large multi-office firm and a client will describe how the 2030 Commitment has affected their organizations. You’ll discover:
• How firms are discussing their work
• How they’re perceived by clients
• What barriers they’ve encountered
• What successes they’ve enjoyed
Plus, get an overview of a new tracking, reporting, and analysis tool that has been developed to integrate better into the design process.

Three Firms’ Approach to Integrating Research in Practice
5/16/2015 | 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM
Georgia World Congress Center, Room B206
Improving building performance. Decreasing environmental footprint. Responding to climate change. Creating healthier environments: These are among the biggest challenges confronting architects today. Integrating research into a practice can lead to innovative solutions, but how many firms have the time and resources?
In this session, representatives from three firms will share their experiences in funding and implementing research initiatives. They’ll also present case studies spanning scales from thermal bridging to thermal comfort to resiliency planning—and discuss how these initiatives have impacted their work.
With ongoing project pressures and demands, many of us in the industry struggle to find time to explore new ideas. Get back on track—and see how you can integrate research into your practice—by attending this session.
