At this year’s Healthcare Design Expo + Conference PAYETTE Associate Principal Stuart Baur AIA and Director of Creative Engagement Karen Robichaud will be presenting alongside Hillary D’Amato CCLS of MassGeneral Hospital for Children, on Relieving the Stress of Pediatric Emergency Care. The Healthcare Design Expo will be held in Orlando, FL from November 11 – 14.
Relieving the Stress of Pediatric Emergency Care
A trip to the emergency department is stressful for patients, particularly for children. At a time that feels tense and chaotic, how can architects contribute to easing a child’s experience? As healthcare architects, we bring a clear understanding of how a space works, but we can do more to foster community and promote patient well-being. One firm partnered with a healthcare institution and its family advisory council to bring a multimedia tool to the pediatric emergency department experience. This pro bono project demonstrates how architecture firms can stretch their design skills to enhance and promote well-being among our community’s most vulnerable members.
This presentation aims to teach attendees how to “Identify opportunities to alleviate patient stress through multimedia design projects. Learn how to recognize opportunities to engage the patient community and healthcare owners in innovative ways. Learn how nontraditional design challenges can be used to expand and improve skill sets that are increasingly common in large architectural practices. Identify ways to apply design thinking and problem-solving to improve the patient experience.
