It’s that time of year to find the perfect gift for that special architect or designer in your life!
We’ve polled the office and here are a few items at the top of our list.

For the cartography nerd in your life. You can lay it flat to see Buckminster Fuller and Shoji Sadao’s famous projection, a map that shows the continents as one landform with minimal distortion. Or you can fold it up to form an abstracted geometric globe.

The actual Voynich Manuscript—a 15th century codex written in an unbreakable cipher and filled with lush, mysterious, creepy illustrations—lives in Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, but they were kind enough to scan the whole thing and publish it. It’s as beautiful as it is inscrutable, a gorgeous graphic design object and an enigmatic puzzle box, sure to capture any designer’s imagination.
Lacoste x Zaha Hadid Black Leather Ankle Boot

Or, you could get them a nine-year-old pair of boots designed by Zaha Hadid on eBay. There’s apparently only 1,000 of this collection in existence, and the evocative shoe “expands and contracts to adapt to the shape of the feet.” We kind of love the way it snakes around the wearer’s ankle, and the ripple effect on the leather is very slick. As of this writing they’re listed for $3,000 (!!!), but hey, free shipping.
Or finally, here is a product that embodies the very essence of excellent design. It used the least material to serve a function yet with expressive flair!
