We’re so proud to see the great work at Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute being recognized and highlighted by the WCVB Channel 5 News. The segment focused on on the recently completed Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute (GMGI) as Science Director Dr. Andrea Bondar described the research conducted in the new 6,000 SF state-of-the-art saltwater laboratory.
We now are able to explore the bio-diversity of the ocean in a very cost-effective way. We have two DNA sequencing systems. We have a robotic platform, so when we are working with a large number of samples we can automate the process and work with hundreds of samples simultaneously

As discussed in the feature, by studying the genetics of sea creatures including cod, lobster and sea urchins may help us in the battle with a variety of diseases.
There are very few cases of cancer diseases in lobster. And so by looking at the genome, that can help us to understand how to live a long and healthy life.
