Construction crews are still putting the finishing touches on our University of Kentucky Academic Science Building, but the academic year waits for no one and we are thrilled to announce the building opened for faculty and students last week, which was featured in the Lexington Herald Leader.
The 263,000 SF Academic Science Building includes state-of-the-art undergraduate teaching laboratories, as well as both formal and informal learning spaces that encourage discovery and support problem-based learning. Programs include chemistry, biology, neuroscience, technology enhanced active learning environments, 200- and 300-seat tiered lecture halls, classrooms and learning center spaces.

The U-shaped building responds to orientation and context, while the interior green space will engage students. The brick envelope and detailing responds to the character of the campus, while the “front porch” is scaled to address the neighboring science buildings, express the nature of the atrium and interior learning spaces, and create a memorable front door.
