We are pleased to announce that our Healthcare Practice Leader, Scott Rawlings AIA, FACHA, LEED AP has joined the International Well Building Institute™ (IWBI) Advisory Council, which represents diverse stakeholder perspectives and provides guidance on the ongoing development of the WELL Building Standard®. The WELL Building Standard® is an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring the performance of building features that impact health and wellbeing. WELL is administered by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI), a public benefit corporation whose mission is to improve human health and wellbeing through the built environment.
With incredible advancements in technology, approach and appreciation for truly sustainable initiatives, it is an exciting time for healthcare design.
At PAYETTE, we believe in the advancement of architecture for health and research through a rigorous exploration of the functionality of users’ environment. Creating a place that supports an individual’s ability to perform, or heal, at their highest level, while simultaneously advancing that individual’s personal well-being, is true innovation. When IWBI approached PAYETTE about assisting their team in developing the future WELL Building Standards for the healthcare and research building typologies, we felt it was an obvious marriage of two firms with a very similar vision. We are excited about the challenge and the opportunity to work with such an innovative team.
Scott’s personal goal, as an advisory board member, is to generate more recognition of this innovative program within the healthcare community. While the current WELL Building Standard is designed for commercial, the concept is so applicable for where we are headed with the future of hospital design. Places built to heal should promote wellness across all platforms, for all users, at the highest level. Over the next two years, Scott plans to introduce this program to healthcare institutions, design firms and academia in an effort to foster the natural evolution of the sustainable movement. PAYETTE will embrace the concepts of the WELL program and look to advance the program both through actual building design projects and internal research.

About the WELL Building Standard®
The WELL Building Standard® (WELL) is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact the health and wellbeing of the people who live, work, and learn in the buildings.
