We are pleased to announce that the Pedestrian Bridge (PedX) at Northeastern University has received the Envision Bronze Award designated by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI). Projects earning Bronze status must demonstrate environmental, social and economic benefits that rise above standard or conventional practice.
PedX is an elevated bridge that connects Northeastern University’s main campus to its new science and engineering precinct. The new precinct is comprised of the recently completed Interdisciplinary and Engineering Complex (ISEC) building and EXP, a future home for a number of the University’s research labs, robotics programs and a makerspace. The project spans the MBTA and Amtrak rail lines, realizing Northeastern’s goal of linking its Huntington Avenue Campus to Columbus Avenue.
The project earned this award for its contribution and impact in the following areas:
- Enhancing Public Space and Promoting Future Growth
- Protecting and Improving Public Health and Safety
- Using Energy-Efficient Lighting and Minimizing Light Pollution
- Maximizing the Use of Durable Materials with Recycled Content
