Payette Principal and Director of Building Science Andrea Love recently spoke at HealthSpaces on patient-centered design and thermal comfort.
There are six factors that impact thermal comfort for a person: clothing insulation, metabolic rate, air speed, humidity, air temperature, and radiant temperature. Two of those factors are controlled by the individual, but the others are all influenced by building design.

Located along Boston’s famed Emerald Necklace designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the Klarman Building responds to the presence of this green space to create a state-of-the-art center for inpatient care and healing. In addition to extending aspects of nature into the building through orienting views and finishes, the Sky Garden allows patients, family and staff to find healing in the landscape.
