Yesterday, as we sat down for our very own PAYETTE Thanksgiving, seeing all of the people that make up our practice enjoying a meal together prompted me to reflect on our wonderful journey this year. It was at this time last year, the week after Thanksgiving, we heard the news that we were recipients of the 2019 AIA Architecture Firm Award. For this, we are grateful to all the talented people who have contributed to PAYETTE in so many ways through the years to help us elevate the practice, but more importantly to help define our PAYETTE family. And what a wonderful family we have!
During the many parties and events over the year, when we have reconnected with so many of our alumni, I was reminded that for many of us PAYETTE has become a nest that we can all call home. As our year closes, I am also reminded that within a week another exemplary firm will receive news regarding the Architecture Firm Award and will carry the torch for 2020. At the same time, it is equally rewarding to think of what lies ahead and to begin to see our message and approach, the FUSION of Design + Performance, have reach and impact beyond the confines of New England.
As PAYETTE looks toward 2020, we are excited by the opportunity and potential a new year brings. We believe we are an architecture firm that is just beginning to stretch its wings, becoming actively engaged in the discourse and definition of Performalism. In the spring of 2020, we are pleased to report that Monacelli will be publishing a monograph of our work entitled FUSION – The Performance of Architecture. Although this book captures a moment in time, highlighting our most current thinking and selected work from the past several years, it was greatly influenced by our long history, shared values and commitment to bring innovation and beauty to buildings for healthcare and science. It was a story we wanted to tell to push us forward, to finish a chapter and to mark a new beginning.
The concept for the book was largely born when crafting our AIA Firm Award submission; when we realized that our approach, the FUSION of Design + Performance, was worth sharing to bring greater clarity and understanding of our work and its purpose. Both efforts, the AIA Firm Award Submission and the book, have helped us grow and articulate the goals and ambitions for our practice.
This has been a year of recognition for our work and craft. With this, our talented people, and the outstanding opportunities ahead of us – we have a lot to be thankful for!
