The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate the new Firestone Medical Research Building. While construction on the building began a year ago, the groundbreaking ceremony was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Attendees at the ceremony included leadership from the University and the College of Medicine, local leaders, faculty, staff, students and members from the Board of Trustees, UVM Foundation and UVM Medical Foundation.
This addition will provide modern facilities to support research and education missions at the Larner College of Medicine. The 62,000 SF addition will include space for biomedical research labs, computational labs, and the Center for Biomedical Shared Resources. This new center will support biomedical research programs and trainees at UVM, as well as support future growth in regional and national collaborations.
The building is tracking LEED Silver and is scheduled for completion in 2022.
