The soul of our practice resides in its people, and we are always looking for ways to cultivate emerging talent and professionals; we enjoy an active internship program year-round. This summer, our office is filled with a lively cohort of talented interns from both nearby and all around the world. Meet them below! Part 3 of 3.
Shuhan (Tracy) Mao
I am a first-year student in the Master of Architecture I AP program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. I like designing things like crafts, posters and logos since my childhood. I chose architecture as my major because architectural design always involves broader consideration about social context, environmental response and cultural identity. While designing, I am excited about using architectural formal language to convey my ideas and solve multiple problems through a single gesture. Outside of architecture, I enjoy cooking and making cocktails. Getting a bartender license is on my to-do list.
Jeslyn Tan
I am a rising 5th year student in the Bachelor of Architecture program at Virginia Tech. My curiosity in architecture led me to enroll in the ‘Introduction to Architecture’ summer course at Cornell University and I have been hooked since! I love the rigor of practicing design and challenging ways of thinking. I enjoy seeing the world in different ways and my academic career thus far has helped me do so. In my thesis, I intend to use hand drawing as a method of expression and communicating my ideas. Outside of architecture, I love to cook, explore new places and draw!
Zeron Thach
I attend the Boston Latin School and will be graduating in 2023. I joined this internship to learn about 3-D modelling. I have always enjoyed drawing but making an object that can be printed and held is a new experience. Outside of architecture, I will do anything to satisfy my boredom. From hiking to skydiving, if I can do it, I will.
Yihan Yang
I recently graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and will enter the Master of Architecture in Urban Design program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Architecture creates possibilities for people to have various perceptions of space. It provides places for diverse linkages to happen. I am fascinated with the interactions that architecture creates at different scales, and the information of history and culture it conveys. When I have time, I go to different spots in the city to take photographs. My recent hobbies are playing guitar and skateboarding.
Oscar Zamora
I am at Harvard Graduate School of Design for my M.Arch II. After practicing between Latin America and the U.S for 7 years, I decided to go back to Architecture school to expand on current design/research interests, such as Performative Design in Tropical Regions and the Global South. When not in studio, I enjoy taking long walks, hosting small parties and dancing Salsa! When it comes to design, I draw inspiration from quotidian situations and human behavior.
Zicheng (Roy) Zhang
I am Zicheng Zhang and my friends call me Roy. After spending the first 18 years of my life in Changsha, China (yes, the same city where PAYETTE designed the Fifth Xiangya Hospital), I am now a rising thesis student at Syracuse University, pursuing my Bachelor of Architecture degree. I have previously interned at Gluckman Tang and Studio SUMO in my sophomore year.
After spending a semester in Florence, Italy, I was deeply fascinated by architectural antiquities and that expands into a keen interest in exploring the intersection between old and new in architecture. I am always looking to learn more about adaptive reuse and reinvigorating old structures. Outside of architecture, I like running and going to museums. I listen to jazz sometimes and have been trying to develop a vinyl collection.
