A practice that functions like a school.
We teach, we mentor and we give back to strengthen our firm culture, our profession and our community. We are an Academic Practice that engages deeply with the profession and the academy through our uncompromising commitment to design, research, generous investment in people and contributions to the larger discourse on architecture through publications, lectures and exhibitions. While an Academic Practice supports rigorous inquiry, exploration, and is deeply committed to mentoring young architects, it also engages with the academy and the education of architects to advance the profession, the percolation of ideas, and contributes to the larger discourse on architecture through publications, lectures and exhibitions. More importantly, these activities contribute to the creation of a firm environment that seamlessly integrates the life-long education of architects. This is critical for the practice to thrive in a state of constant evolution.
PAYETTE is honored to be continuously invited to give lectures and exhibit our work at several architecture schools along the east coast. Through drawings, models and finished photography the way we design and think about architecture is revealed. These exhibitions and lectures provide an in-depth look at our process and our purpose; a process and purpose guided by the principle of Performalism – the FUSION of Design + Performance. Performalism asserts the inseparability of design and performance in our practice. It acknowledges the context of the project and explores how the building responds to stimuli. Our projects evolve from the synthesis of taming complex program and problems with consideration of social geometry and the environment, resulting in beautiful buildings that perform beautifully.
