Attending next month’s ArchitectureBoston Expo (ABX)? Be sure to check out Reduction by Ventilation on Thursday, 11/15.
Ventilation is responsible for 45% of the average high-technology building’s energy consumption. Indoor air quality has emerged as a central concern in green building initiatives. Design professionals are progressively seeking strategies by which high-technology programs are enriched and informed by efficient and sustainable climate control methods. Via an analysis of research and healthcare facilities, we investigate and uncover the relationship between contemporary, high-technology designs and their built results. The study includes benchmarked actual ventilation used on projects and the strategies that were employed to achieve lower rates. Further investigation through building performance modeling visualizes the effects of ventilation rates on energy consumption, comfort, and health. From this research and analysis, best practices and cutting-edge strategies have been synthesized into a set of recommended design techniques to dramatically reduce a project’s outside air requirements. These proposed strategies can better align design initiatives and ventilation systems with sustainable ideals, providing significant reductions in energy and carbon emissions for high-technology buildings.
