The American Institute of Architects has elevated George E. Marsh to its College of Fellows, an honor that recognizes architects who have made a notable contribution to the profession and to society. George was recognized under the Practice category (the others are Design, Organizational Leadership, Government/Industry and Service).
Since 1980, George has practiced architecture at PAYETTE and has been a Principal since 1991, leading design, planning, programming and management of projects nationally and internationally. He has been always one of the first to explore the new typology to expand the firm’s practice, including museums, theaters, environmental science, specialty research and veterinary medicine projects.
George’s work follows a path planning complex architecture in significant historic institutional settings, creating award-winning campus architecture and landscape architecture. His contributions to campus planning and placemaking for people in these important settings are evident across his vastly diverse project work.
His passion is creating contemporary architecture in great campus settings for people, balancing architectural history and the technology of the future. This practice has been on the national and international forefront of pushing highly technical buildings to make great campus environments.
Tom Payette sponsored George’s submission in his letter:
“Over the past thirty years, I have greatly admired George’s very collaborative and supportive relationship with clients and their consultant teams.”
In his reference letter of support, John Wilson wrote:
“Rather than a signature architectural style, George Marsh, Jr.’s work focuses first on the purpose of the building combined with both its built context and its particular place on our Earth. […] The ability of George to make connection, actual or future, provides a rich context for growing or sharing that serves dynamic organizations very well.”
Dorothy F. Chappell wrote in her reference letter:
“George Marsh is a superb architect whose expertise is informed by his excellent credentials, creativity, and the indispensible quality of wisdom as he brings his ingenuity to the field of architecture.”
George will receive his Fellowship medal during the Investiture of Fellows Ceremony at the AIA 2013 National Convention and Design Exposition in Denver, Colorado. Congratulations to George!
