On Friday, February 21, Northeastern University held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex. Several members of the PAYETTE team attended including Kevin Sullivan, Bob Schaeffner and Barry Shiel, who all took part in the ceremonial breaking ground. The event was well attended with members of Boston’s local political scene in attendance, including Mayor Marty Walsh. In his remarks, the mayor mentioned his excitement for this design to draw people together, inside and outside. Additionally, he highlighted the pedestrian bridge as a tremendous asset that will connect two Boston neighborhoods. It was exciting to hear from members of the community about how this building fits in to the long-term goals of both the University and the city at large. President Aoun also spoke about his vision for the University as they embark on this new phase of growth. We were honored to observe and participate in the day’s festivities.
