There are many things we care about in our everyday business here at PAYETTE – drawing and doodling devices being all important. From detailed drawing and quick sketching to red-lining and mark-ups, we do a lot away from the keyboard. And, the tool matters.
The array of pens, pencils, highlighters and markers found in our supply room are considered the standard stash. Others have their own personal favorites: MUJI and Staedtler being stand-outs.
Seen and heard from around the studio:
“I am a pen snob; my favorite is from the Japanese store MUJI – I converted my RISD class to this.”
the MUJI Gel-ink ballpoint pen .55 mm
“I only use Staedtler. Other inks fade overtime.”
“(on special-ordered pen) Pen I am using is Pilot Razor Point II. Personally, I think this pen writes smoother and sketches better because of the smaller point than the Stylist.”
“Pentels are good for fast, quick sketches to just get out. The stylist – everyday use, sketching and more detail. Prismacolor Col-Erease: a must for mark-ups and red-lining construction documents. At home … I have a stash of Micron pens. Sharpie is great when we have to label obscure materials for a job.”
“I am just glad to have options!”
