Inspired in large part by the AIA’s #ilookup campaign, these photos and short time-lapse videos of our project at 75-125 Binney Street in Kendall Square were taken over the past year during the project’s construction.
As architects we use plans as one of our primary tools to explore and document our designs. Those drawings typically look directly down at the floor and landscape, or up towards ceiling and sky. Perhaps why the #ilookup campaign resonated with me was the realization that we don’t often experience our buildings in the same way that they are drawn. However, the interior bridges, atrium and light wells at 75-125 Binney Street offered the chance to see the building in this way.
In these spaces one can look down and understand the relationship between building and the interior and exterior landscape design by our collaborators at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc., or look up and daydream, watching the sky move beyond the confines of the architecture.
