Earlier this month the University of Kentucky celebrated the steel topping off ceremony for the new $112M, Academic Science Building in Lexington, Kentucky. The ceremony was punctuated by several speakers from the university acknowledging the two year effort in the design and construction of what promises to be a new, cutting-edge teaching facility. Programming for the building includes Chemistry, Biology and Neuroscience as well as teaching labs, classrooms and extensive community spaces to support collaboration and new active learning and cutting-edge teaching environments. Dean Mark Kornbluh stressed the importance of this facility in supporting academic teaching alongside research and the new opportunities this building will afford the vast majority of the student population.
Located at the intersection of Rose Street and Huguelet Drive, the new building is situated at the southwestern edge of the academic campus and borders the University hospital facilities. Across the street from the 1960’s era Chemistry/Physics and Biology buildings, the new facility sits at the crossroads of academic sciences and the recently developed student housing on its southeast border and will be infused with activity from every direction. The opening is planned for August 2016.
