Celebrating New Architects: Jimmy Baer

Jimmy Baer recently joined the firm’s ranks of registered architects. Today we celebrate his accomplishments.

Jimmy joined PAYETTE in 2013. He graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2008, and earned his Masters of Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2010. During his time at PAYETTE, Jimmy has impacted several projects including work for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the Pennsylvania State University, as well as ongoing renovations at the VA Medical Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Outside of work, Jimmy enjoys traveling with his wife and daughter, and renovating their home on the South Shore.

What inspires you?
The way different cultures respond to design situations – the localized materials, craftsmanship, and varying attitudes towards architecture and design is inspiring to me.

What is the best part of your job?
Every day is different, with a new set of issues to be resolved. I enjoy the excitement that builds over the course of a project and the realization of that initial idea.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned so far?
Architecture is a mixture of reason, purpose and patience at varying scales and situations.

The sky is the limit: if you could design or redesign anything, what would it be?
To revitalize my hometown of Ipswich’s main street, including the rebuilding and design of the former Strand Theater. I would also like to renovate a really historic home – a Victorian let’s say, and keep the traditional exterior, highlighting its historic details and give it a hyper modern interior. That would be fun.
