This year we are very excited to lead several sessions this fall at ArchitectureBoston Expo (ABX) including three sessions focusing on professional development.
By Emerging Professionals, For Emerging Professionals
How can you, an emerging professional, create a leadership role within your company? How can you take ownership of your professional development and strengthen firm culture? Creating and sustaining professional development programs that empower young talent is crucial for individual career advancement and firm engagement. Learn how you can forge leadership opportunities in your firm that develop and retain talent. We will compare and contrast two different grassroots organizations from the AEC industry: Turner, a multi-office construction firm, and PAYETTE, a single office architecture firm. We will explore how a new program encourages participation and initiates programming as compared to a well-established program that constantly adapts to meet the changing needs of emerging professionals. You’ll leave with the tools and insights necessary to implement knowledge-sharing, culture and community service initiatives that you can scale up or down according to your firm’s unique setting.

Social Media: Get Strategic
A strategic approach to social media does more than support existing marketing/bd/pr efforts; it can truly transform an organization’s culture and give it that hard shove into the 21st century many organizations need. In this interactive session, speakers will dive deep into social media strategy. We’ll share secrets to making your social media truly strategic on several levels-for individuals, for firms, and even for the profession as a whole. From finding your target audience to creating compelling and “share-worthy” content, we’ll share our roadmap for successful social media strategy. Using an individual architect’s social media presence alongside a mid-size firm’s strategy, we demonstrate how implementing social media strategy can be a game-changer.

Architecture of Inclusion: Diversity and Equitable Practice
This session will explore some of the predominant, systemic challenges within the architecture and design professions as related to race and gender equity in Northeast region architecture firms. A lively panel discussion will be structured to allow speakers, facilitators, and audience members to contribute to the conversation and speak candidly about experiences, opportunities, and obstacles that have shaped them as individuals and career professionals. Topics will include: – Culture branding’s role in career advancement, and the public view of architecture as a profession. – Significant disparity of equitable practices exists throughout the American economy beyond the architecture and design professions; how do we bring about real change within that context? – What are measurable steps Boston area firms can take to build awareness and implement tactical policies for positive change? – What is the distinction between race and gender in diversity? – What would equitable practice in architecture and design look like for Boston?
