We are thrilled to announce our Glazing and Winter Comfort Tool has earned an AIA Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Innovation award!
The AIA Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community has spearheaded an effort to highlight award winning case studies from the architectural profession and construction industry in the harnessing of Building Information Model (BIM) technology and processes to further design, construction and project excellence. The AIA/TAP Innovation Awards emphasizes how new practices and technologies can further enable project delivery and enhance data-centric methodologies in the management of buildings for their entire lifecycle, from design, to construction and through operations.
Our Glazing and Winter Comfort tool is based on existing scientific research that aims to improve the design community’s understand of the triggers of thermal discomfort in the wintertime. It was developed to be simple and intuitive so that architects and engineers can design glazed facades that provide the desired levels of transparency, comfort and energy performance at an ideal cost. The tool is a result of one of our on-going research initiatives and development of the tool involved contributions from building scientists, designers and web developers.
The jury went on to praise the tool for its ability to help designers make quick design decisions that include performance characteristics and long-term costs. They also noted it’s a valuable resource for studetns and experienced professionals alike. Finally, the jury mentioned the tool’s usability and user-friendly design that helps users understand the results. We’re proud to have produced a valueable and informative tool
The tool received an honorable mention award in the Category D: Practice-based Research/Academic/Curriculum/Applied Technology Development. Check out all the honorees and vote for the People’s Choice award!
Award recipients will also be recognized at the 2017 National Convention in Orlando. We are honored to receive this award and would like to congratulate all the 2016 honorees!
