We are excited that the fifth annual Boston Design Week is here! The 12-day event runs from April 4 –15, with events happening all over the city. We have chosen a few events to highlight below, but please check the event’s calendar to see what other events might interest you (and note that many events require an RSVP). This year’s Design Week celebrates the intersection of culture, technology and equality, and how design pushes that intersection forward. There’s so many cool things to learn and do in our city, so get out there and enjoy!
Ongoing Throughout Boston Design Week: Art in the Age of the Internet
Institute of Contemporary Art
25 Harbor Shore Drive, Boston, MA 02210
Art in the Age of the Internet, 1989 to Today examines how the Internet has radically changed the field of art, especially in its production, distribution, and reception. Themes explored in the exhibition include emergent ideas of the body and notions of human enhancement; the Internet as a site of both surveillance and resistance; the circulation and control of images and information; possibilities for new subjectivities, communities, and virtual worlds; and new economies of visibility initiated by social media.

Scout, Northeastern’s student-led design studio, is hosting its inaugural design conference: Interventions! Through a series of lectures and workshops, this conference is a space for creatives to consider the consequences of design interventions and examine the intentions of their work. In a society where design is used as a powerful tool for change, prominent designers will explore topics such as what role design plays in dividing or connecting us, measuring the impact of design, and examining the societal responsibilities of designers. Leaders and creatives from Github, Airbnb, and Monotype, to name a few, will be exploring these themes and challenging ideas on conventional design.
Equitable Boston: Design, Development & Access to Opportunity
Monday, April 9 | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Boston Society of Architects
at Hibernian Hall, 184 Dudley Street, Boston, MA 02119
Using Imagine Boston 2030 as a framework, panelists from the planning, design and development community will address how parts of the city’s vision for the future can be achieved using more inclusive and equitable practices to shape the built environment. Designers and developers are playing a significant role in the future of Boston, and who gets a seat at the table impacts more than just how our city looks. By embracing inclusive and equitable practices, this plan has the chance to improve economic opportunity for all residents, attract and retain a more diverse workforce, and create a stronger, more inclusive future for Boston. Presented by the Boston Society of Architects/AIA and DREAM Collaborative.
