The application process for the PAYETTE Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship is now open for the 2017/2018 academic year. We established the scholarship in partnership with the AIA to honor long-time PAYETTE principal Sho-Ping Chin. Sho-Ping was a talented and compassionate architect who was fiercely determined to design healthcare architecture of the highest caliber for those in need. In addition to her work in healthcare architecture, Sho-Ping was a wonderful mentor and instilled in her teams a sense of camaraderie and commitment to design. As a founder of the AIA Women’s Leadership Summit, held biennially, Sho-Ping was instrumental in defining the national discourse for Women in Design.
The $10,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who will be entering at least their third year of undergraduate or any level of graduate study within an accredited architecture program. Previous PAYETTE Sho-Ping Chin Memorial Academic Scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply in subsequent years. To help the scholarship recipient establish contacts within the profession, she will be assigned a senior mentor from the firm for the scholarship year.
This was the first scholarship offered through the AIA specifically for women architecture students, named after a women architect. We are proud to continue Sho-Ping’s passion for advancing women in the profession of architecture.
Applications are due January 25, 2017.
