Crazy schedules, filled with meetings, deadlines and travel, are not an uncommon thing at PAYETTE. As our portfolio continues to grow geographically hopping on a plane for a meeting is a normal occurrence. Even in today’s digital world where we have access to video conferences and instantaneous file sharing, there are times when nothing can replace a handshake.
With that said, welcome to my world as PAYETTE’s Business Development Manager. As I reviewed my travels this year, I realized I had flown nearly 46,000 miles in 2016. This may not be overly impressive to my colleagues traveling internationally, but I clocked 82 flights in 2016. That’s a lot of takeoffs, landings, delays, standbys, burnt airplane coffee, bagged pretzels and security checkpoint x-rays.
Travel is key to a Business Development role, but it’s also one of the things that I love most about my job. While approximately 50% of my travel is from D.C. (my home base) to Boston, the rest of the time I get to explore places like Charleston, Atlanta, San Antonio, Philadelphia and Knoxville. Part of my responsibility in the firm is getting to know the local landscape of potential clients, and it’s been an adventure. While the majority of my trips go smoothly (knock on wood), it’s the rocky ones that keep things interesting. Along the way I’ve learned a lot of travel trips, so if you’re ever in need of advice on how to stay healthy, how to handle delays or which airport restaurants to stay away from, let me know!
Safe travels in 2017!
