I had the opportunity to visit the recently opened Merkert Hall Introduction to Chemistry Teaching Labs to see them in action. With 24 students busily mixing and stirring their experiments, I was quite taken by the symphonic texture of sounds emanating from the space and the impromptu percussive performance created by the glass on glass ensemble of beakers, graduated cylinders, pipettes and stirrers.
