It’s an exciting time for our New Science Center at Amherst College, as we just celebrated the last concrete slab pour with the building taking shape. The above grade concrete structure integrates a variety of high-tech systems to help us reduce energy consumption by 75%.
Opening in the summer of 2018, the new 230,000 GSF Science Center will house the College’s biology, chemistry, physics and psychology departments. Research and teaching labs, along with support facilities, classrooms and informal learning spaces are all organized around a large multistory atrium, physically and visually connecting the sciences.
The topping off celebration, courtesy of our concrete sub S&F Concrete, was a wonderful event with over 200 contractors joining to celebrate the project’s achievement.
The last of the large steel roof beams were erected, with only the smaller beams left to be hoisted next week, and we are on track for a completion date of 2018.
