This summer at PAYETTE was my first real experience working at an architecture firm. In school, we learn about the conceptual, theoretically perfect side of architecture. However, the dichotomy of what we are taught versus how architecture needs to function never became so clear to me until this summer. I am so thankful for my experience at PAYETTE, because I now have so much more knowledge to bring back to school!
This summer, I made models, picked up Revit and worked in Virtual Reality. I met so many incredibly talented people and have been inspired to keep learning different technologies that help architects. PAYETTE has an in-house data visualization team, and Computer Science Interns helped create software to better accommodate various programming in our projects.
As an aspiring architect pursuing a Computer Science minor, testing their software sparked so many ideas as to how technology can be integrated into architecture. Unlike other internships I have had, at PAYETTE I not only was able to improve my technical skills, but also learned more soft skills from other staff members, whether it was in an alcove discussion or a team meeting.
PAYETTE is a place to develop skills, network and also create friendships. Looking back at this summer experience, PAYETTE isn’t a firm that you just come to once and forget about, but a place you easily fall in love with, and I have no doubt that it will remain in the back of my mind as an ideal architectural firm to work for someday.
