PAYETTE recently contributed to a video essay produced by AIA National as part of a year-long effort to identify the challenges facing designers in the immediate future. Jim Collins was interviewed by Stephen Chung, AIA and led a discussion about how internal office layout can influence design methodologies and practice–one in which, at PAYETTE, very much reflects the “workshop” organization experienced in architecture school. Jim discusses the function of PAYETTE’s office space and how the single-floor model blurs the boundaries of heirarchy and values collaboration. This is part of a series of interviews in the architectural community looking at how architects can make the world smarter, more efficient, less wasteful, and healthier. This video will also air at AIA National Convention in Washington, DC this May. Check out the video and see footage from PAYETTE’s office space!
