Creating connections between inside and outside, people and nature.
At PAYETTE, we emphasize the inseparable connection between architecture and landscape. Our Landscape Architects engage from the project’s inception, ensuring that the building and its surroundings evolve together, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. The landscape team collaborates closely with the project team, offering site analysis, master planning, building placement and orientation and site-specific designs.
Kevin B. SullivanThe architecture that responds to these needs is, above all, people-centric. The impression it leaves are of abundant daylight and fresh air, embedded nature, nuanced social geometry, and carefully considered craft that delights both the eye and the hand.
DESIGN
To create a robust landscape design, thorough design research, tools and processes are crucial to achieving our vision. We take the time to uncover the hidden history and invisible connections of each site to tell its unique story. We use various tools to gather geological and physical site information to establish a comprehensive understanding of the location. While we still draw by hand, we also love to utilize cutting-edge software to virtually test spatial quality and experience. As landscape design involves live materials that evolve significantly from day one, we collaborate with architects, soil scientists, civil engineers and other disciplines to ensure we establish a solid framework for the coming decades.
Sustainability
Sustainability is fundamental to our designs, which are contextually responsive, regenerative and contribute to healthy communities. Our landscape architects assess cultural contexts and ecological conditions to envision essential site characteristics. We develop site-specific strategies to reduce carbon footprints, purify air and water, increase energy efficiency and restore habitats, seamlessly integrating these elements into our design concepts to cultivate healthier, more sustainable environments.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion
At PAYETTE, we are committed to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our work. Our landscape architecture practice reflects this commitment by designing spaces that are accessible and welcoming to all. We believe that diverse perspectives enrich our design process and lead to more innovative and inclusive solutions. By prioritizing community engagement and inclusive design principles, we ensure that our projects not only meet the needs of diverse populations but also celebrate and enhance the cultural and social fabric of the communities we serve. This dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion is integral to our mission of creating spaces that are both beautiful and meaningful for everyone.
Embedded Nature
Our “Embedded Nature” approach is not just a methodology but a mindset. It emphasizes the importance of incorporating nature into even the most complex urban environments, fostering well-being for mind, body and spirit.
In science and research projects, our work enhances the project’s influence beyond the buildings themselves, maximizing access to natural light and greenery for interior spaces, transforming the campus environment and shaping the campus identity. For healthcare projects, we design clinical spaces with direct connections to nature in patient and staff areas, creating environments that support overall well-being and recovery.
art & craftmanship
Art and craftsmanship are crucial in landscape architecture, blending aesthetic appeal with functional precision. Art infuses creative vision into spaces, making them visually inspiring and culturally significant. It transforms landscapes into expressive canvases that reflect societal values and historical contexts. Craftsmanship ensures these visions are realized with meticulous detail and high-quality materials, resulting in durable and sustainable designs. Together, they create harmonious, engaging environments that enhance quality of life, promote environmental stewardship, and foster a deep connection between people and nature.
