On Monday, October 28, Westerly Hospital celebrated the opening of its new Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
The Yale New Haven Health Westerly Smilow Oncology Infusion Clinic is a 7,500 sf renovation on the second level of YNHH Westerly Hospital transforming underutilized office and storage space into an outpatient infusion clinic. Located on the second floor of the hospital, the entry to the clinic is immediately accessed from the main hospital elevators, ensuring easy access and wayfinding for patients who are often weak from their treatments. The project includes seven exam rooms for pre-infusion exams, and eight infusion bays. The infusion bays are arranged in private cubicles with access to shared daylight and views above the adjacent tree line and neighborhood.
Two oncologists, Dr. Legare and Dr. Vanasse-Passas will begin seeing patients on Friday, November 1. The space has been designed to include potential growth to include a third clinician in the future. The oncology clinic at YNHH Westerly Hospital is the first Smilow Cancer Care Center to open in Rhode Island. The design team included PAYETTE, GMI and BR+A.
