On the heels of the recent IDP Outstanding Firm Award, the AIA published an article looking at what some of the winning firms are doing that set their IDP programs apart. From mentorship that partners interns with more experienced architects, like at SS&L to offering incentives for earning one’s license like at EDR, Erica Malouf’s article explored the value of an Intern Development Program. At PAYETTE we pride ourselves on the long history of our Young Designers Core (YDC), started in 2000 as a leadership and development network. Our philosophy behind in the YDC is that elevating interns elevates the practice as a whole. By offering a variety of settings ranging from the entire staff to small group events, interns can forge connections and build natural mentoring relationships with a network of individuals, providing mentorship on a range of levels.
