The National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) celebrated the official opening of the Science and Research Building. PAYETTE, teamed with Reddy Architecture and Urbanism, designed a group of three research buildings for the University. The project was planned in tandem with two additional campus buildings to address and repair how visitors navigate and experience the entire University campus.
As the first new building on the new north campus science precinct, the Science Research Building provides high technology science research space dedicated to cancer research, regenerative medicine and chemical biology. By utilizing a long, low-rise horizontal massing, the building establishes both a strong campus edge and a new pedestrian thoroughfare connecting the new science precinct with the heart of the historic campus.
