In Chinese culture, the Dragon holds a significant place as an auspicious and extraordinary creature, unparallelled in talent and excellence. It symbolizes power, nobility, honor, luck, and success. 2024 is forecasted to bring about opportunities, changes, and challenges.
China Highlights
Our project in Changsha, a five million square foot hospital surrounded by gardens and punctured with courtyards, embodies all of that: opportunities, changes and challenges!
Following an eight-week international design competition, PAYETTE was chosen for the planning, programming and design of a new 2,500-bed hospital in Changsha, China.
The Fifth Xiangya Hospital will provide a new world class model for the delivery of healthcare in an integrated, efficient and uplifting environment. The Hospital is a campus, consisting of a series of interconnected structures, organized in two main groups—the General Hospital and the VIP Hospital—that surround a special central Healing Garden, axially aligned with the Xianguling Park.
Each half of the campus is organized around a central concourse, along which all the clinical functions are organized. The meandering inpatient towers hover above it. Two levels of service functions and parking provide the operational base below ground.
The Healing Garden at the heart of the project provides a unique personality to the campus, a clear identity to the front door, and an inviting and relaxing outdoor amenity in direct contact with nature for all.
The Hospital will be easily accessible and will establish a vibrant engagement with the surrounding community. Its civic and physical presence in Tianxin will be strong but friendly, a proud anchor of the community and the region. The entire campus is accessible to the city and the neighbors, who can circulate around and through it along the Emerald Necklace, a network of paths at different elevations, linking the city to Xianguling Park.
