Beginning as a master plan to shape the future of cardiac catheterization procedures on the New London, Connecticut campus of Yale New Haven Health’s Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, this project aimed to modernize the existing procedure room and prepare the campus for future growth within the modality. The renovation relocates the existing procedure lab with long-term planning goals in mind; while the immediate project needs sought to replace aging equipment and upgrade procedural systems. The reconfiguration of the space enables long-term expansion of the service within the 300 Building located on the L+M campus.
The 4,500 SF renovation centers on the creation of sterile areas for staff circulation, while maintaining sight lines between procedure, circulation and patient care zones within the suite. Ample cross-corridor access to natural light, aided by the shorter depth of the existing floor plate, enhances the patient recovery experience within expanded patient bays. Aging building infrastructure required the addition of a new 10,000-CFM air handling unit on the rooftop directly above the procedure area, necessitating careful consideration of vibration and acoustics as to minimize impact on the use of X-Ray imaging for delicate operations.
The construction of the project was completed in a swift six-month period, with Construction Management provided by A/Z Corporation of North Stonington, CT.
