Hal Spiers, LEED AP
Promoted to Associate
Hal Spiers originally joined the firm in 1996 and has focused primarily on laboratory projects ever since. He began on projects for Biogen Idec, as well as for Oberlin College and Rockefeller University. Hal is a part of our laboratory planning department and has concentrated on programming and documenting highly technical laboratories. In that capacity, he has worked on projects for Shire HGT, Vertex and the University of Rhode Island. Most recently, he has taken on the formidable challenge of planning core laboratories for the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Russia. Hal received his B.Arch from the Boston Architectural College.

Part mapping exercise, part design project, part model-shop tutorial, the DigiFab Quilt is a favorite tradition of the OpenLAB Studio Fabrication course. Referencing a map from 1912 of the Nubian Square site and comparing it to the present day, students designed a ‘speculative interpolation’ that imagined a potential urban condition that might have existed between these two moments in Boston’s development.
